The numbers speak for themselves.
So when Pharrell Williams, one who is heavily regarded for his natural ear and ability to discover new talent, needed a new, upcoming artist to add to his Star Trak label, the artist/producer did not need to venture far.
Alyssa Bernal was blowing up on YouTube and for good reason. The 20-year-old’s incredible voice, sunny vibe and down-to-earth personality was something hundreds, then thousands, then hundreds of thousands of people could relate to.
Since becoming a YouTube* sensation (#13 most subscribed – musicians all-time), Alyssa has been hard at work on her upcoming debut record, In Love Again for the First Time. Recently, TeenChive was fortunate enough to catch up with Alyssa and discuss the new record.
“It’s very naïve,” Alyssa remarked when asked to explain In Love Again for the First Time. ”It came so naturally…it was awesome. I worked a lot with songwriters and musicians there at the studio and it was a very free spirited kind of thing, like, every day, I don’t even think any one song took more than two days to finish. It just came so naturally.”
Alyssa adds that she was encouraged to write a lot from personal experiences, the type of intimate songwriting that endured her with so many people on YouTube in the first place. Alyssa, who cut the record overseas in London, said that the popular European city was “one of the top places I always wanted to go” and it appears the experience trickled over to her songwriting for the debut. Her first single, for example, is titled “Cali, Cali, Cali” and is about what the singer/songwriter describes as paradise, a place where “you can get away from reality and just sit back…and reminisce and just relax and be yourself.”
Alyssa cites Jason Mraz, Corinne Bailey Rae and Joss Stone as her three biggest musical influences. She will go on a national tour with LifeHouse and Chris Allen beginning in October to further promote her new album. Until then, TeenChive encourages you to buy her new single, “Cali, Cali, Cali” which is available now through iTunes.
