People rarely log in to MySpace.com anymore, and Justin Timberlake is trying to change that. The 30 year-old singer turned actor played Sean Parker in the movie The Social Network, which probably inspired him to purchase his own social network.
Justin is a part of Specific Media, the group that purchased MySpace, Wednesday, for $35 million. The company said in a press release:
“As part of the deal, Emmy and Grammy winning artist Justin Timberlake will also take an ownership stake and play a major role in developing the creative direction and strategy for the company moving forward. Specific Media and Timberlake plan to unveil their vision for the site in an exclusive press conference later this summer.”
MySpace was once the most popular social networking website on the web, up until 2007. It was purchased for $580 million in 2005. Out of the hundreds of millions of websites that exist, MySpace was once ranked in the top ten by Alexa, but now they are ranked #85. Which is far behind Facebook at #2, and Twitter at #9. In all honesty it doesn’t matter who owns MySpace it will never be successful again.
