Tamar Kaprelian, previously featured on TeenChive for her debut album Sinner or a Saint, also sat down with us recently and dished about the music industry.
Tamar, who received a major break in 2008 when she won OneRepublic’s “Apologize” YouTube contest talked about the site’s influence and future in the music industry, as well as gave some sound advice to aspiring performers.
“I think it’s incredible the amount of exposure something like a YouTube or MySpace or Facebook can bring to the table,” Tamar responded when asked about its potential for discovering new artists. ”These social networks, it’s really quite amazing. I mean a lot of people would have not necessarily got that opportunity.”
“Artists use to do is have to go on tour for years to gain that kind of following and now it’s just, with something like YouTube, you can get exposed with a song you recorded in your living room to thousands and thousands of people and in a matter of seconds.”
When asked if she had any advice to give to young artists, especially those inspired by her YouTube story, she remarked, “Honesty I think the most important piece in the entire equation is ‘drive.’ I really do.”
“If you stay driven and if you stay focused and you really, really, really believe in yourself and your art – you can make it happen. I really do, I really believe we all have the ability to make incredible things happen with the right focus of energy and time.”
